International Project Experience

Examples of DAGA’s international commissions and projects are outlined below.

Training Thailand’s First Accredited

Road Safety Auditors

In March 2017, David A Graham Associates was invited by the Engineering Institute of Thailand (EIT) to deliver a three-day Road Safety Audit Foundation Course in Bangkok, training Thailand’s first 20 IHE-accredited Road Safety Auditors.

The course introduced participants to the UK approach to Road Safety Audits, including the four audit stages set out in HD 19/15 (now GG 119 within the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges). Training covered the identification and assessment of road safety problems, the preparation of clear audit findings and proportionate recommendations, site visits and practical workshops. Participants also examined a problematic U-turn junction on Ramkhamhaeng Road in Bangkok as a practical example of road safety issues and potential improvements.

Road Safety Strategy Development

– Mauritius

From September 2012 to April 2013, David A Graham Associates worked with Road Asset Management Limited, a Mauritius-based consortium, to develop a Road Safety Plan Synopsis for the Government of Mauritius. The report outlined road safety engineering practices and how they could help reduce collisions across the island.

The work supported a wider proposal involving an international racing circuit and an Institute for Safe Driving, with a focus on promoting Road Safety Education, Training and Publicity (ETP) alongside engineering measures. In 2024, David A Graham Associates was invited by the Government of Mauritius to update and help implement its Road Safety Plan.

Road Safety Planning & Demonstration Project

– Kaunas, Lithuania

In February 2009, David A Graham Associates provided advisory support to the Municipality of Kaunas, Lithuania, contributing to the development of a collision analysis model for the local police, a Road Safety Plan and a Road Safety Demonstration Project.

The work included presentations to municipal staff and a practical demonstration of low-cost road safety improvements through road marking at a junction in Kaunas Old Town. The project demonstrated how collision analysis and targeted, cost-effective engineering measures could help identify and address road safety problems.
